General Information
When is the Emergency Animal Clinic of Topeka open?
We are here for you when your regular veterinarian is closed. Our hours are:
● Monday – Friday: 5:30 PM – Midnight
● Saturday: Noon – Midnight
● Sunday: 8:00 AM – Midnight
● Major Holidays: 8:00 AM – Midnight
Do I need an appointment?
No appointment is necessary for emergency visits. However, we highly recommend calling us at (785) 272-2926 before you arrive. This allows our medical team to prepare for your specific emergency and provide guidance on how to safely transport your pet.
Do you provide routine care like vaccinations or dental cleanings?
We limit our practice strictly to emergency medicine. We do not provide routine wellness exams, vaccinations, flea/tick prevention, grooming, or boarding. For these services, please contact your primary care veterinarian during their normal business hours.
Triage & Wait Times
How long will I have to wait?
In an emergency clinic, patients are seen based on the severity of their condition (triage), not in the order of arrival. A pet in critical condition (e.g., difficulty breathing or active heavy bleeding) will be prioritized over stable patients. We appreciate your patience as we provide life-saving care to those in most urgent need.
What should I do if I think my pet has been poisoned?
Stay calm and bring any product packaging or labels with you to the clinic. If possible, call us while you are on your way so we can consult with poison control resources and prepare the necessary treatments immediately upon your arrival.
Services & Hospitalization
What kind of diagnostic tools do you have?
Our facility is equipped with an in-house laboratory for STAT testing, digital radiographs (X-rays), ultrasound, and endoscopy. This allows us to get fast results when every second counts.
Can my pet stay overnight if they are very ill?
Yes. We provide personalized care for critically ill or injured pets. If your pet requires continued care after we close at midnight, our staff will coordinate with you and your primary veterinarian to ensure a safe transfer or continued treatment plan.
Will my regular vet know what happened during my visit?
Yes. We believe in a collaborative approach to your pet’s health. We provide digital records and treatment summaries to your primary veterinarian so they are fully informed for any necessary follow-up care.
Financial Questions
How much does an emergency visit cost?
Because we are a specialized after-hours facility with advanced equipment and specialized staff, costs are typically higher than a routine vet visit. We provide a detailed estimate for all recommended treatments after an initial examination.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payment is due at the time services are rendered. We accept cash, all major credit cards, and CareCredit.
Do you offer payment plans?
While we do not offer in-house financing, we do accept CareCredit, which offers various financing options for veterinary care. You can apply online or at our clinic.
